Those moments, it turns out, tend to come in the wet. On soft or muddy ground, Sanitiser has won 2 of its 9 races at that type of going — roughly 1 in every 4 or 5, which is notably better than its overall rate of about 1 win in every 10 races across its career. Throw in a stamina test — races over two miles or more — and the picture sharpens further. Three of its four career wins have come at long distances, from 18 attempts at that trip. That's 1 win in every 6 races over that range, which for a horse competing mostly at Class 4 level represents a genuine specialism rather than coincidence.

Sanitiser has been trained throughout by Gary and Josh Moore at their yard in Lower Beeding, West Sussex — a busy and productive operation that has already sent out 94 winners this season alone. That kind of firepower means horses are placed carefully, and Sanitiser seems to have found its niche. The partnership with jockey Freddie Mitchell has been the most fruitful combination: together they have won 2 of their 9 races, a win rate of around 1 in 4, which is double the horse's overall average. That matters.

The recent form is particularly striking. After a couple of quiet runs, Sanitiser has rattled off three consecutive placed or winning efforts, including a win at Fontwell Park on 14 March 2026 and another victory in the two most recent results. Fontwell, like Windsor where the first career win came back in September 2022, suits horses that stay well and handle a turning, undulating track — exactly what Sanitiser appears to be. The horse raced again just six days ago, finishing second, which means it is in the middle of a purple patch rather than at the end of one.

At seven years old and in this kind of form, Sanitiser is not a horse people are building dreams around. But right now, on wet ground, over a long trip, with Freddie Mitchell aboard — it is exactly the sort of horse a knowledgeable friend would quietly mention before a race.
