Sandret

The most interesting thing about Sandret is what happens when he gets the distance and ground he likes. At distances between seven furlongs and a mile, he is a different proposition entirely: two wins from four races at that sweet spot, a 50% win rate that stands out like a beacon against his career average. It is not a large sample, but it is loud enough to suggest that the yard have found something that works. His last victory came at Thirsk on 29 August 2025, a little over a year ago — a long time between wins for any horse still turning up to race, and a sign that good days have become rarer. Recent form, however, shows he is not finished yet: he ran a second place just six races ago and was beaten into seventh only once in his last half-dozen outings, which suggests there is still a bit of fight left.

Newcastle is the course he knows best, with two wins from fourteen attempts there. That is not dominance, but it is his strongest home ground, and horses often benefit from familiarity. Sam England's yard at Guiseley has been sending out winners at a healthy clip this season, and jockey Andrew Mullen, who rides him most often, has managed a single win from ten races together. With Sandret currently active and having raced just a day ago, he remains in the game — a veteran of the racing game who shows up, does his job at a respectable level, and occasionally still reminds people why he belongs in the saddle.
