What is worth noting is that Sand Art raced just one day ago, so this is a horse very much in active training and being kept busy. Some horses need time and experience to find their feet, and at three years old there is still development to come. But eight races without troubling the judge even for a place finish is a significant hurdle to overcome, and the yard will need to find a race or a set of conditions that suits this horse better than anything tried so far.

The trainer, Kevin Thomas Coleman, operates out of Carrick-on-Suir in County Tipperary and has sent out eight winners already this season, which shows the yard is more than capable of getting horses to perform. The fact that Sand Art has not yet clicked into gear is unlikely to be down to any lack of trying on the training side. Sometimes a horse simply takes longer to find its level, and Coleman will be hoping that patience eventually pays off. For now, Sand Art remains a work in progress — one that has plenty still to prove.
