The real story here is ground. On wet ground, the horse is nearly three times as effective as its overall record suggests: two wins from seven races means it wins roughly 29 per cent of the time when conditions are muddy or soft. This is not a horse that thrives everywhere, but when rain has freshened the ground, Sailthisshipalone becomes genuinely competitive. Its first career win came at Thirsk in August 2023, and its most recent victory — just three weeks ago at Ayr on 17 September — shows it can still find the winners' enclosure on the right day.

Trainer Ivan Furtado's Wiseton yard in South Yorkshire has been prolific this season with 43 winners, and Sailthisshipalone remains active enough to contribute. However, stepping up to Class 3 company — some of the stronger races below the very top tier — has not worked: zero wins from seven attempts at that level. The horse performs better when racing among slightly softer opposition. Jockey Oisin Orr, who has partnered it seven times, shares the same modest record of one win from those rides.

Recent form shows a horse finding some consistency: places in four of its last six races, including a win just days ago. Sailthisshipalone is a plodder rather than a star, but it is one that knows where to find a race it can win — usually when the track is wet and the company is right.
