Saeculamation

The recent form tells an interesting story. Going back through the last six races, Saeculamation finished 1st, 5th, 8th, 4th, 3rd, and 4th — with that sequence read most-recent-last. In other words, after that winning run in December, there have been a couple of wobbles, but the horse was placing consistently before the win and has since shown it can mix solid performances with the occasional off day. It last raced just one day ago, which means this is very much a horse in the middle of its season, still finding its feet at three years old.

Most of Saeculamation's racing has come at Class 6 level — the entry-level tier of British racing, where horses are finding their way and learning the game. From 8 races at that level it has won 1, a rate of roughly 1 in every 8, which is modest but not unusual for a horse still developing. Jockey J F Egan has been the go-to partner, riding it in 6 of those 14 races and riding the winning one at Chelmsford. That win from 6 together — roughly 1 in 6 — is actually a decent ratio, and the partnership clearly clicked on the night that mattered.

George Margarson's yard has been in solid form this season, sending out 11 winners, which suggests a stable that knows how to get horses ready to run. For Saeculamation, the job now is to build on that Chelmsford breakthrough and show it was a turning point rather than a one-off. At three, there is plenty of time for that question to be answered.
