Rushmount

The overall career record reads two wins and three places from 11 races, which works out at roughly 1 win in every 5 or 6 outings. That's a respectable return, but the Thurles figures tell a more interesting story than the overall numbers do. Some horses simply suit a track — the shape of the bends, the way the ground rides, the distance between fences — and Thurles appears to be Rushmount's place. Its most recent win came there on 20 December 2025, around three months ago, so that confidence is fresh.

Recent form has been mixed. Reading the last six runs from most recent backwards — 11th, 1st, 5th, 5th, 4th, 12th — you can see a horse that has its days, capable of looking uninspiring one week and producing a winning run the next. That 11th last time out will have disappointed, but a finish that far back doesn't necessarily mean something has gone wrong; horses have off days just like anyone else, and the win sandwiched in the middle of that sequence shows the ability is still there.

Rushmount is trained by Jonathan Sweeney out of Kildinan in Co. Cork, a yard that has sent out eight winners already this season — a healthy total that suggests a yard in decent form. For a nine-year-old with a solid if unspectacular record, still racing and still winning, the story here is really about finding a home. Thurles is clearly that for Rushmount, and if it lines up there again, it deserves more than a passing glance.
