The most interesting thing about Runninsonofagun is where it actually wins. Both of its career victories have come at distances between a mile and a furlong and a mile and two furlongs — that's 2 wins from 15 races at those trips, a win rate of 13%, or roughly 1 in every 7 or 8 races at its preferred distance. That is a noticeably better return than its overall record suggests, and it points clearly to a horse that knows what it wants. The first win came at Navan back in August 2024. The second, and more recent, arrived at Ayr just this week on 13 July 2026 — a timely reminder that Runninsonofagun is not a horse living off past glories.

Tristan Davidson trains the horse out of Irthington in Cumbria, and it is a yard in decent form — 21 winners already this season, which is a productive return for a smaller regional operation. The most curious subplot in Runninsonofagun's story is its partnership with regular jockey Rowan Scott, who has ridden the horse seven times without a win between them. That is not necessarily a damning record — plenty of horses win with one jockey and go blank with another purely down to circumstance — but it does stand out that both of this horse's victories have come outside that pairing. Something to watch if and when they go their separate ways in the saddle.
