The recent form tells an interesting story. Wind the clock back a few races and you can see a horse that was genuinely competitive — a second and a third suggest Running Point has been knocking on the door. The last couple of runs have been less encouraging, finishing sixth and then a well-beaten sixteenth most recently, which hints that the horse may still be finding its feet and working out what it wants to do. At three years old, that is not unusual — some horses this age are still growing into themselves, physically and mentally.
Fahey's yard has sent out three winners this season, so the operation is ticking along, and a horse with this kind of placed form is clearly not without ability. The question is whether Running Point can translate that into a first win. Having raced as recently as yesterday, the yard are clearly keeping this horse busy and giving it every chance to break its duck. Sometimes a horse just needs one race where everything clicks — the right day, the right conditions, the right moment — and the pieces fall into place. Running Point looks like a horse still waiting for that day.
