Factor in that both career wins at the track came on wet or muddy ground, where it has won 2 from 7 races overall (29%), and a picture emerges of a horse with very specific conditions in which it transforms. Most horses at this level simply do not have a track they can call their own. Run Forrest Run does.

All three of its career wins have come at distances between five and six and a half furlongs, where it has won 3 from 27 races — around 1 in every 9. Short, sharp, and on soft ground at Cork is simply where this horse operates best. Its last win came there on the 1st of October 2024, which is now 20 months ago, and the recent form figures of 7-11-8-6-7-10 make for difficult reading. It has not threatened a win in its last six races, finishing consistently in the mid-to-lower half of the field.

Trainer Laura Hourigan operates out of Patrickswell in County Limerick and has sent out six winners this season, so the yard is clearly functioning. Regular jockey Trevor Whelan has not yet found the key to getting a win out of this horse in five attempts together. That partnership remains winless, though the sample size is small enough that it would be unfair to read too much into it.

Run Forrest Run raced just one day ago, so the yard are clearly keeping it busy. Whether the right combination of Cork, rain, and a short sprint comes together again before time runs out on this horse's career remains to be seen — but when it does, it is worth paying attention.
