Run Boy Run

The wins do tell a story worth noting. Run Boy Run won its maiden race at Newcastle in March 2024 and has since claimed a top-level Class 2 victory at Ayr in September 2025 — proof that it can compete at a serious standard when conditions and circumstance align. Yet at Class 2 level generally, the numbers are sobering: just one win from 16 attempts gives a win rate of around 6 per cent. This horse is better suited to lower-grade races, where it can mix it with more modest opposition. Ground conditions play a meaningful role in its performances. On normal ground it has won 2 from 7 (29 per cent), and on wet or muddy ground the win rate climbs to 2 from 6 (33 per cent) — suggesting it appreciates a bit of cut underfoot rather than a fast, firm surface.

Trainer Richard Spencer, based at Newmarket, has saddled 30 winners this season and clearly knows how to get the best from his string. George Wood has been Run Boy Run's regular jockey, riding it to 3 wins from 19 races together — marginally better than the horse's overall win rate of 1 in 7. With the horse still active and having raced just a day ago, Spencer will be plotting how to get it back in the winner's circle. Seven months without a win is a long drought at this level, and finding the right race, on the right ground, against the right field will be crucial if Run Boy Run is to reignite its winning form.
