Rubellite

The most striking thing about Rubellite is what happens when it gets out to a proper distance. Over a mile and three-quarters to two miles, it has won 7 of 19 races — that is better than 1 in every 3, a dramatically sharper record than its overall numbers suggest. A lot of horses are versatile enough to compete at various trips but only truly shine over one; Rubellite is very much a stayer at heart, and when the yard pitch it into those longer races, it becomes a different proposition entirely.

Then there is Wolverhampton. Four wins from 13 races there makes it one of the track's more reliable performers, and it is worth noting that Rubellite's very first career win came at Wolverhampton back in January 2024. Some horses just take to a particular place — the track layout, the surface, something in the atmosphere — and Rubellite has never forgotten its way around there.

Most of its racing comes at Class 6 level, which is the grassroots end of British racing. It is competitive, unglamorous, and often decided by fine margins. Winning 6 from 33 at that level is a solid return — about 1 in every 5-and-a-half races — and it tells you this is a horse that punches squarely at its own weight. Jockey Jason Hart has been a key part of the recent picture, winning 3 of 7 rides together — that is 43%, nearly 1 in every 2, a remarkable partnership rate by any measure.

Rubellite raced just yesterday, having won at Newcastle only this week — a result that keeps it bang in form heading into whatever comes next. Trainer Stephen Hanlon, based at Constable Burton in North Yorkshire, has sent out 4 winners this season, and Rubellite is clearly doing its share of the heavy lifting. This is a horse operating at the honest, workmanlike heart of the sport — and right now, it is flying.
