The horse is clearly at his best in Class 4 company, where he has won two of five races, a forty percent win rate that shows this is where he belongs. His jumping has been solid enough to impress his trainer, Ben Pauling, who noted after a recent chase debut at Chepstow that Roysse jumped well overall despite a bit too much exuberance early on. He did peck on landing four out and took a blow from it, but Pauling was keen to get him out again soon to learn on the job—the kind of comment that suggests the trainer sees potential in him if he can settle into the pattern of chasing. Ben Jones, his most regular jockey, has only a fourteen percent win rate aboard him from seven races together, which is well below the horse's overall win rate, so perhaps a change of rider at the right moment could make a difference.
Pauling's yard at Naunton has been firing this season with ninety-one winners, and Roysse remains active just one day after his last race. For a horse knocking on the door at Class 4 level, consistency is the missing piece. He has the ability to win races, but whether he can do it often enough to justify the patience his the yard are clearly showing is still an open question.
