Royal Response is by Getaway, a stallion who tends to produce horses that need a bit of time and experience before they hit their best. The mother's side comes from King's Theatre, a hugely influential sire in the jumping world whose offspring have an excellent record of developing into smart, durable horses over fences and hurdles. On paper, this is a horse bred to improve with racing rather than burst onto the scene fully formed.
The trainer is Colin Bowe, based in Enniscorthy in County Wexford, who has sent out two winners so far this season. It is a modest yard by the numbers, but Bowe has a solid reputation for producing horses that are well-prepared on debut, so the fact that this horse has been given a run is worth noting in itself. First-time-out runners from smaller yards sometimes tell you more about a trainer's confidence in a horse than any statistic could.
