The most recent form figures tell a mixed story. A runner-up finish is sandwiched around a couple of eighth-place efforts and one race where it either fell, was pulled up, or didn't finish — so consistency is something the yard will be working on. That said, it raced just yesterday, which means it is fit, active, and clearly being campaigned with purpose.

The trainer is Mark Walford, who operates out of Sheriff Hutton in North Yorkshire. With 35 winners already on the board this season, Walford is clearly a man whose horses are worth following — a yard running that hot tends to know when and where to place a horse for maximum effect. The fact that Royal Maggs is still being pointed at races suggests Walford sees something worth persevering with. Sometimes a horse just needs the right conditions or the right day to click into gear, and with a trainer in that kind of form, Royal Maggs may not have to wait too much longer.
