The real story is how consistent it has been lately. Of its last five races, it has won three of them: a victory at Ffos Las in late June to break its duck, then wins at the start of September and again this week at Great Yarmouth. That is not fluky — that is a horse learning its job properly. The two non-winning runs in that stretch brought a fifth-place finish and a fifth-place finish, but even those efforts came wrapped around wins. The pattern shows a horse that knows how to get the job done more often than not, something you cannot say about most of its age.

Tom Clover's Newmarket yard has sent out 23 winners already this season, so Round The Table is operating in a stable with genuine form behind it. Yesterday's run — barely a day ago now — suggests the horse is being given every opportunity to build on what is already a solid foundation. For a three-year-old with a 60 per cent win rate across five races, the trajectory is pointing upward.
