Roman Spring

His current form has a real bite to it. In his last six races, Roman Spring has won three times, including the recent Brighton success, with only one finish outside the top three. That is the kind of run that catches attention — he is winning roughly every other race and finishing in the money consistently. The horse clearly thrives on fast, dry ground, where he wins one race in every five or six outings, compared to just one in every nine on his worst surfaces. Normal conditions suit him almost as well. These are the conditions to watch for if you want to catch him at his best.

Trained by the Liphook yard of Rachel Cook and John Bridger, Roman Spring has been a useful earner for the team in the lower classes, where he typically competes. Joe Leavy has ridden him most often, though the partnership has won just one from seven races together. Brighton remains the place to follow him — a course where he has proven himself far more than anywhere else, and where he has just shown he still has winning races in him.
