From three races at Doncaster, Rogue Diplomat has won twice, which suggests the track suits something about how this horse moves and races.

The comfort zone in terms of distance is equally clear. Over seven furlongs to a mile, Rogue Diplomat has won 5 from 7 races — that is a 71% win rate, winning nearly 3 in every 4 races at those trips. Ask for more or less and the picture shifts; stick to that range and you are usually watching a winner. Jockey Harry Davies has been the regular partner for much of this, winning 5 of their 8 races together. That is a 62% win rate between them — better than 3 in every 5 — which speaks to a genuine working partnership rather than a lucky streak.

Behind it all is trainer James Owen, based in Newmarket, the historic heartland of British racing. Owen's yard has sent out 205 winners this season alone, which puts them firmly among the busiest and most successful operations in the country. Having a horse like Rogue Diplomat in that environment — winning at Class 2 level, which means competing in some of the better races in Britain, and now winning at Ascot — suggests this is a horse whose ceiling has not yet been found.
