Since then, he has not tasted the winner's circle across his last six races, finishing twelfth, sixth, ninth, and seventh in his most recent outings before two unexplained absences. He raced just a day ago and remains in active work, so the yard are still looking for the spark that lit him up eighteen months back.

Rockbury Lad does have one measurable strength: normal ground. On standard conditions, he has won 2 of his 20 races — a 10% win rate, which is respectable compared to his career average and suggests he runs best when the track is neither heavy nor bone-hard. Trainer M D O'Callaghan, based at The Curragh, has kept faith with him despite the lean spell. The yard is ticking over nicely this season with 18 winners already, so Rockbury Lad remains part of a functioning operation rather than a struggling one.
