The recent form tells an interesting story. Those two places came earlier in the sequence, and the last three outings — finishing 11th, 7th, and 6th in order — show a horse that has been gradually creeping closer to the action. That trajectory, from the back of the field toward the middle of it, is worth noting. It raced just yesterday, so Coleman clearly feels there is still something to find out about this horse, and keeping it busy is often how trainers unlock improvement in young horses still figuring things out.
Coleman's yard has sent out 10 winners already this season, which suggests this is not an operation that simply runs horses for the sake of it. When a yard is producing winners at that rate, the horses around them tend to benefit from a confident, well-drilled environment. Roaming Coyote has not delivered yet, but it is in capable hands, and at three years old, it has plenty of time to turn those places into something more.
