The yard behind Rlasthope, the Norton, North Yorkshire operation run by Tony Coyle and Kaine Wood, has sent out 12 winners this season, which tells you this is a team that knows how to get horses ready to perform. Rlasthope hasn't found the winner's enclosure yet, but it is being prepared by people who clearly do get horses there. That matters when you're trying to work out whether a young, unproven horse has a future.
At two years old, Rlasthope is still very much a work in progress. Most horses this age are still learning what racing even is — what the starting stalls feel like, how to handle a crowd, when to switch on and run. Going from a fifth to a second in recent outings suggests something is clicking. The question now is whether that improvement continues next time out, which given this horse raced just a day ago, could be very soon indeed.
