The very first Dundalk win arrived on 29 November 2023, so this is not a flash in the pan — it is a pattern that has held over more than two years of racing. What ties all four wins together is distance and ground. Riyami has won all four races over two miles or more, going 4 from 15 at long distances, and every single one has come on normal ground conditions. Put Riyami over a mile on soft ground at a different track and you are looking at a different horse entirely.

Jockey J M Sheridan has clearly figured this out. In nine races together, Sheridan has ridden Riyami to two of those four wins — a win rate of 22%, or roughly 1 in every 4 or 5 rides. That is meaningfully better than the horse's overall career average, and it suggests a partnership that works. Behind them both is trainer Denis Gerard Hogan, operating out of Cloughjordan in County Tipperary. The yard has been in sharp form this season, sending out 56 winners — so this is not a small or struggling operation.
