The recent form tells a story of gradual improvement, at least in finishing position. A fourth-place finish is the best River Ore has managed so far, but moving from eighth to sixth to fourth across three races suggests a horse that is slowly getting the hang of things rather than one going backwards. It has not threatened the winner's enclosure yet, but the direction of travel is at least pointing the right way.
The trainer, John Joseph Hanlon, operates out of Bagenalstown in County Carlow and has sent out 11 winners already this season, which shows the yard is in decent working order. When a capable stable has a horse still searching for that first win, it usually means they believe there is a race to be won somewhere — the task is finding the right one. For River Ore, that breakthrough remains the goal, and with youth and recent racecourse experience on its side, the opportunity is still very much alive.
