River Edge

The recent form makes for interesting reading. A blank run sits at the back of the sequence, but since then River Edge has been consistently present, finishing fourth, fifth, second, third, and fourth in its last five outings. That second and third, in particular, suggest a horse that is running to a solid level without yet finding the ability or the luck to cross the line first. At Class 5, the level where most of its racing has come, it has run three times and not won any of them — though placing twice shows it is not out of its depth, just not quite good enough on the day.

Trainer Christopher Mason has had a productive season, sending out 12 winners from his yard, which suggests a stable in decent form. That River Edge has not contributed to that tally yet is a minor frustration, but a horse finishing second and third is at least a horse that is trying. Mason will be hoping that one small improvement — better ground, a tighter finish, or simply a day when the pieces fall into place — is all that stands between River Edge and a first win. With the horse having raced just yesterday, it is clearly fit and active, and that first victory may not be far away.
