Both of his career wins came in quick succession in May 2025 — first at Downpatrick, then at Wexford eight days later — which suggested something had clicked at just the right moment. But that was 14 months ago now, and he hasn't won since, going six races without a victory. His recent form figures of 8-8-6 in his completed runs tell a familiar story: he's finishing mid-pack, not threatening the front.

The ground matters to Riggs more than most. On normal conditions he has won 2 from 14 races — 14%, which is actually a decent return compared to his overall record. That's where both wins came, and it's the clearest signal the team has about when to aim him.

Jockey Liam McKenna is clearly the man for this horse. Together they have won 2 from 7 races — that's nearly 1 in every 3 rides, a remarkable ratio given how rarely Riggs wins overall. When McKenna is in the saddle, Riggs is a completely different proposition. The four races he's been sent to at the top level — Class 2, among the better races in the sport — have yielded nothing, which is no great surprise given his overall record, but it does suggest the team has been willing to test him at a higher level.

Trainer P Cluskey has spoken previously about harbouring genuine ambitions for Riggs, including a £100,000 long-distance hurdle at Haydock, and noted that stepping him up to three miles felt like the right move. Whether those plans still apply at age 11, after a 14-month winless run, is another question. The yard has sent out 2 winners this season, so Riggs accounts for the full tally of their success. He remains a horse his team clearly believe in — now it's a question of whether he can deliver one more time.
