Ribeye

The numbers reward a closer look. Ribeye wins roughly 1 in every 7 or 8 races overall (13%, or 6 from 45), which is a perfectly respectable return for a horse running at this level. But narrow it down to wet or slightly soft ground and that number climbs noticeably — 3 wins from 13 races, almost 1 in 4. That is a meaningful difference, and it tells you something useful: when the ground gets a bit of give in it, Ribeye is a more dangerous animal.

The course to watch is Market Rasen, where Ribeye has won twice from seven visits. Two wins from seven at a single track is not a fluke — it suggests a horse that genuinely suits the place, whether that is the shape of the track, the distance, or simply the conditions it tends to find there. Most horses never build that kind of record at any circuit. Danny McMenamin, who rides Ribeye more than anyone else, has won 3 from 12 together — 25%, or roughly 1 in 4. That is meaningfully better than the overall win rate, and the partnership looks like a productive one.

Ribeye last won at Hexham back in October 2025, so there is a nine-month gap to bridge before the next success. The recent form shows a fourth, two sixths, and a seventh across the last six races, which is solid placing without the breakthrough win. Trained by Peter Atkinson at Yafforth in North Yorkshire — a yard that has sent out five winners already this season — Ribeye raced just yesterday, which speaks to the kind of active campaign you would expect from a horse still in good enough shape at eleven to keep competing.

At this point in a long career, every run is a bonus. Ribeye has earned its place on a racecourse the hard way.
