That said, there is a faint trace of improvement buried in the numbers. Reading her form from oldest to newest — 8, 4, 5, 7 — she did show a flash of promise in the middle of that sequence, creeping closer to the action before fading away again in her latest outing just yesterday. It is a slim thread to hang hope on, but it is there.
She is trained by Martin Dunne at Newmarket, one of the most competitive training centres in British racing. Dunne's yard has sent out 20 winners already this season, which shows there is no shortage of ability in the stable — Rianka simply has not yet found a way to tap into her share of it. At three years old she still has time, but the clock is ticking, and four blank runs without even a placed finish suggests she has work to do before she starts troubling the judge.
