Regal Guest typically competes at Class 5, which is the entry level of British racing — the races where horses are expected to be learning their trade or finding their feet. Going winless from three races at that level suggests the horse hasn't yet clicked into gear even in the most accessible company available. The recent sequence of finishing positions — 7th, 6th, unplaced, 5th, 7th, and then 3rd — does at least hint at a slight uptick, with that third-place finish the most encouraging result in the string.
The horse is trained by George Margarson at Newmarket in Suffolk, one of the spiritual homes of British flat racing. Margarson's yard has sent out 11 winners already this season, so there is clearly ability in the operation. The fact that Regal Guest hasn't yet delivered for them doesn't reflect badly on the trainer — some horses simply take longer to find their best form, and the team will be hoping that third place recently is a sign of things to come. Regal Guest raced just yesterday, so is clearly fit and active, and the search for a first win goes on.
