Trained by Mrs John Harrington out of Moone in County Kildare, Rapide Vega at least has a strong operation behind it. The yard has sent out 51 winners already this season, which tells you this is not a small or struggling stable — it is a busy, successful outfit that clearly knows how to get horses ready to run and win. The fact that Rapide Vega hasn't scored yet is not necessarily a reflection on the team around it, more that the horse itself is still finding its feet.
The most recent run — that eleventh-place finish — is the one that raises an eyebrow, coming after back-to-back fourth and fifth placings that at least suggested improvement was possible. Whether yesterday's race was simply a bad day, a tricky draw, or a race that came too soon is hard to say, but it is the kind of result that will have the trainer thinking about where to place the horse next. At three years old, there is still time to figure things out — plenty of horses take a while to click. For now, Rapide Vega is a work in progress, and the next run will tell us a lot about which direction this career is heading.
