Since that Redcar success, though, Raggaas has cooled. Over the last six races, there's been just one top-3 finish — a second place nestled between a fourth, a third, and a couple of lower efforts. The most recent run came just yesterday, a seventh-place finish that will need to be improved on quickly. At this stage, the horse is still learning and proving itself, with fewer than 10 races under its belt. The window for a 3-year-old to develop is closing as the season turns, which makes the lack of recent wins frustrating.

Raggaas runs for Simon and Ed Crisford's Newmarket yard, a stable that has sent out 78 winners this season and knows how to place horses in races where they can succeed. That expertise will matter now — the horse needs to get back to 7-furlong-to-mile races where it has shown it belongs, and away from trips that haven't suited. A return to winning form at the right distance is entirely plausible if the training team can map out the right path. For now, Raggaas remains active and has time to turn this recent dip into a stepping stone rather than a setback.
