But the details matter here. Both of those wins have come on fast, dry ground, and the horse has gone 2 from 5 on that surface — winning 40% of its races when conditions suit. Switch to anything softer and wetter, and it's a different story entirely. Ground conditions aren't just a minor preference for this horse; they appear to be the whole conversation.

The trajectory of recent form is also encouraging. After a pair of poor runs — finishing 16th and 15th — Rage Of Thunder has bounced back sharply, posting back-to-back second-place finishes before winning at Newbury just this week. That Newbury victory, on 23 June 2026, is the latest chapter in what looks like a horse finding its feet at exactly the right time of year, when the ground firms up in summer. The first win came at Salisbury in June 2025; the second at Newbury in June 2026. Whether that's coincidence or a genuine seasonal pattern, the team at G & J Moore's yard in Lower Beeding will certainly have noticed.

That yard, for what it's worth, has sent out 99 winners this season alone — so this is not a small operation quietly hoping for a fluke. When a stable of that size and output bothers to point a horse at a race, there's usually a reason. Tom Queally, who has ridden Rage Of Thunder in 7 of its 17 races, winning once together, takes the ride most often — and a jockey of his experience doesn't keep coming back to a horse without believing there's something there worth riding.
