Qila

The recent form tells the story. Qila ran second last time out, which would normally be encouraging, but before that came a tenth-place finish. Strip away the noise of a couple of bad days and there's some consistency in trying hard — three places from six attempts shows a horse that is competitive at its level, even if luck or that final yard of sharpness hasn't quite materialised yet. The horse is trained by Brian Ellison at Norton in North Yorkshire, a yard that has already sent out 43 winners this season, so there's no shortage of expertise or horses running well from the stable. Whether Qila can join that list and finally get its head in front remains to be seen, but at least it's still racing regularly and still getting chances to change its record.
