Princess Chloe

Her recent form tells its own story. A runner-up finish sits in there, which at least confirms she can get close to the front of a race, but results of fourth, seventh, and tenth suggest more inconsistency than steady improvement. For a three-year-old, there is still time — horses at this age are still developing, and the gap between a near-miss and a winner's enclosure can close quickly — but the pattern so far has not been one of a horse building toward something.

She is trained by Daniel James Murphy at his yard on the Curragh in County Kildare, one of the heartlands of Irish racing. Murphy's team has sent out 14 winners this season, which shows the yard is capable of getting horses into the winner's circle — the question is whether Princess Chloe can be one of them before the season is out.
