That is not a coincidence. In 20 races at Wolverhampton, Prince Hector has won twice and placed on numerous other occasions. For a horse with a 4% win rate overall, finding a track where that number climbs to 10% — 1 in every 10 — is genuinely meaningful. Some horses simply take to a particular track, whether it is the shape of the bends, the surface, or something harder to explain. Whatever the reason, Wolverhampton brings something out in him that most other venues do not.
His most recent win came there on 15 March 2025, and he raced just yesterday — so he is very much a working racehorse, still turning out regularly at the level where most of his career has been spent. He typically competes in Class 6 races, which are the most accessible level of British racing, and has won twice from 40 races at that level. His best distance is somewhere between a mile and six furlongs and two miles — the longer end of the spectrum — and on normal ground, which suits him, he has won 2 from 31 races, or roughly 1 in every 15.
His recent form makes for modest reading: fifth, fifth, thirteenth, sixth, sixth, fifth across his last six outings, with no win since March. But he has placed in 14 races across his career, which means he has been competitive far more often than his bare win total suggests. Jockey Paula Muir, who has ridden him in 20 of his races together, knows him as well as anyone, and trainer Jessica Bedi's yard in North Yorkshire has sent out two winners this season.
Prince Hector is unlikely to win a big race. But for anyone following him at Wolverhampton, the question is never really whether he can win — it is whether today might be the day he does it again.
