It is a significant step up in difficulty, but one the trainer sounds genuinely excited about rather than merely hopeful.

The career record — one win and two placed finishes from seven races, so wins about 1 in every 7 times out — does not immediately scream superstar. But context matters. That one win came at Lingfield Park in February 2025 on very wet, muddy ground, and Lavelle has been candid that the horse probably won that day on sheer ability rather than because she particularly loves those conditions. That is actually an encouraging detail: it suggests there is more to unlock when the ground suits better. The trainer's preference is for soft or good-to-soft conditions — wet enough to take the jar out of the ground, but not the deep mud of that Lingfield day.

Regular jockey Harry Cobden has been in the saddle for five of the seven races, and the pair have won once together — a 20% win rate when they team up, which works out at roughly 1 in every 5 rides. Cobden is one of the better jumps jockeys in training, so the fact that Lavelle has kept faith with him for this horse is another quiet signal that the yard thinks there is ability here worth nurturing.

The real question now is whether switching to fences unlocks a new level. Some horses find their true calling only when they get to jump the bigger obstacles, and everything about how Lavelle talks about Presenting Doy — the physique, the schooling, the raw ability shown at Lingfield — suggests she is betting on exactly that transformation. Whether the form book ends up agreeing is the interesting part.
