At two miles and beyond, he has won 1 of his 9 races—an 11 per cent win rate that puts him in a different class compared to his overall 7 per cent. Long-distance racing appears to suit his temperament or his physical makeup, and A J Martin's yard at Summerhill has clearly spotted this. Martin, who has sent out 13 winners already this season, will be looking to get Pralognan back to the kind of extended trip where he looks most at home. On short races, he flatters to deceive. But stretch him out, give him room to settle into a rhythm, and he becomes a different proposition. With recent form showing he can still place in competitive company, a return to that distance range over the coming months could easily produce his third career win.
