What is more telling at this stage is who is doing the training. Simon Dow operates out of Epsom in Surrey — yes, the same Epsom that hosts the Derby — and has sent out 13 winners already this season. That is a yard in decent form, and first-time runners from a stable hitting its straps are always worth keeping an eye on as they develop. Dow is not a household name in the way some of the sport's giants are, but a double-figure tally of winners in a season means the horses are fit, ready, and pointed at the right races.
For now, Potters Liberty is very much a work in progress. At two years old, most horses are still learning the basics — the noise of the crowd, the experience of racing alongside others, the feel of the track. One run means one data point, and it would be wrong to read too much into it either way. The story is just getting started.
