Port of Entry

Looking at his recent form, there are signs of improvement. In his last four races—run in quick succession over the past week—he has been finishing in the middle of the field: a ninth-place finish most recently, followed by ninth, seventh, and fifth before that. The fifth-place result suggests he is capable of getting closer to the action. For a horse at this stage of his career with no wins to his name, these middling finishes are roughly where you might expect him to be. Whether he can break through into the winner's circle remains to be seen, but the consistency of his recent appearances at least shows he is racing regularly and holding his form. Bevis's yard is small, and Port of Entry represents the kind of long-shot character that makes up the backbone of British racing.
