That was now 39 months ago, and Polar Bear has not won since across 6 further races. But it has placed ten times in total from those 33 outings, which tells you this is a horse that competes — it just hasn't been able to get its head in front again.

Foley has been the regular partner, riding Polar Bear in 20 of its 33 races and picking up both wins. That's a win rate of 10% together — roughly 1 win in every 10 rides — which is significantly better than the horse's overall record and suggests the partnership works. Harrington's yard, based at Moone in Co Kildare, has been in sharp form this season with 58 winners sent out, so the infrastructure around Polar Bear is strong. The horse raced just one day ago and is clearly still in active training, which means there's at least one more chapter to be written. At six years old, Polar Bear isn't young — but it isn't done either.
