Pigeon House

His first win came at Punchestown in May 2024, and the trainer at the time — the renowned Jessica Harrington — made an interesting observation afterwards. She noted that Pigeon House had been threatening to do exactly that all winter and that he clearly appreciated the better, faster ground on the day. That small detail matters: some horses genuinely run differently depending on what's under their feet, and it hinted at a horse who might find his best form when conditions suit.

His most recent win came at Catterick Bridge in March 2026, and it was almost textbook in how it came about. Trainer Charles Pogson had flagged the race publicly beforehand, explaining that Pigeon House was simply rated too highly to beat rivals in a standard race but that dropping into a lower grade of claiming race gave him a realistic chance — and he was right. It's a good example of how trainer judgement can unlock a win that the raw record wouldn't suggest was coming.

Now trained at Farnsfield in Nottinghamshire by Charles and Adam Pogson — a yard that has sent out 12 winners this season — Pigeon House appears to be a horse being managed carefully around his rating. He races most often at Class 4 level and has won 1 from 7 at that grade, and his best distance appears to be the 1m6f to 2-mile range, where he has won 1 from 6 (around 1 in 6 races). His most frequent partner, jockey Sean O'Keeffe, is yet to win aboard him in six attempts together. He raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly keeping him busy — and at his best, over the right trip and in the right grade, he's shown he can still get his head in front.
