Trained by J R Fanshawe out of Newmarket — one of British racing's most famous training centres — Philanthropist operates at Class 4 level, which is solidly mid-tier racing. At that level it has won just 1 from 8 races, or roughly 1 in 8, which tells you this horse is competitive without being dominant. The Fanshawe yard has been in fine form this season with 44 winners, so Philanthropist is part of a genuinely productive operation.

The partnership with jockey Daniel Muscutt has become the most familiar combination. Together they have won 2 of their 9 races — roughly 1 in every 4.5 — which is slightly better than the horse's overall record and suggests a degree of understanding between the two.
