Peter The Wolf

What is most telling about Peter The Wolf is his record in Class 5 races, the lowest tier of competition. In four attempts at that level, he has won once—a 25% win rate, or 1 win from 4 races. Drop him into a slightly tougher contest, however, and he struggles to make an impression. This suggests his ceiling may be limited, but it also means there are likely to be opportunities for him to win again if the yard can find the right race and the right conditions. His recent form has been patchy. In his last six races, ridden mostly by Edward Greatrex, he has finished third, seventh, eleventh, sixth, twelfth, and first—that last-place finish eleven days ago notwithstanding, his performances have been inconsistent and trending downward.

Warren Greatrex's yard at Upper Lambourn, which sent out 50 winners this season, maintains a well-stocked string, but Peter The Wolf has not provided much return on investment so far. With Greatrex in the saddle for ten of his races, they have managed just that single win together. The horse remains active on the track, and at four years old still has time to improve, but the pattern is clear: Peter The Wolf is a low-level runner who has found the winner's circle once and may do so again, but he is unlikely to progress much beyond his current station.
