What works in Persian Sunset's favour is the yard behind it. Kevin Philippart De Foy trains out of Newmarket — the heartbeat of British racing — and has sent out 40 winners already this season, which tells you this is not a small operation guessing in the dark. Philippart De Foy has built a reputation as one of the sharper young trainers in the country, and a horse in his care with a placed finish already on the board is not being written off. Forty winners in a season means the team knows how to get horses ready to run well, and they clearly believe Persian Sunset has more to offer — the horse only raced yesterday, so it is very much a live project right now.
The honest assessment is that zero wins from four races is a tough ledger at any age, and two-year-olds can be notoriously difficult to predict — they are still learning the job. A fourth and a third suggest Persian Sunset is competitive at times, but the sixth and ninth show it can also have days where things just don't click. That is not unusual for a young horse still finding its feet, and with a trainer firing on all cylinders this season, there is every reason to think the story is not finished yet.
