Pearl's Edge typically competes at Class 5, the entry level of British racing, and has gone winless across all six races at that level. That is not necessarily a damning verdict — plenty of horses take time to find their moment — but ten races without a victory does raise the question of whether the winning opportunity has simply not arrived yet, or whether it might be a long time coming.
Jockey Gina Mangan has partnered Pearl's Edge in eight of those ten races, making her essentially the regular pilot, and the pair are yet to find the winner's enclosure together. Christopher Mason, the trainer behind the horse, has had a respectable enough season with 12 winners sent out from his yard, so the operation knows how to win. Pearl's Edge, at this stage, just hasn't been the one doing it for them.
Having raced as recently as yesterday, Pearl's Edge is clearly fit and active, and the yard will be hoping that a change of luck is closer than the record suggests. Somewhere out there is a race with Pearl's Edge's name on it — it just hasn't shown up yet.
