What does offer some context is who is doing the training. Richard Hannon, based at Herridge in Wiltshire, is one of the most prolific yards in the country, and the numbers back that up — 118 winners already this season is a serious operation. When a stable of that size and quality keeps running a horse, they tend to know something the record does not yet show. That said, Paper View has not raced a single time without finishing in the bottom half of the field.
The saving grace is age. At two years old, Paper View is still learning what racing is. Many horses of this age are works in progress, and a yard producing winners at that volume clearly has no shortage of ability to draw on. Whether Paper View turns out to be one of the ones that clicks into gear, or simply a horse that needed more time than was available, another run or two should start to answer that question. Having raced just yesterday, the next chapter is not far away.
