Outer Edge

Both of those wins have come at Class 6 level, from 16 races at that grade — a 12% win rate, or about 1 in 8. The first came at Chepstow in August 2024, and the second at Wolverhampton in April 2025, which means there is now a 13-month gap since the last victory. The recent form reads 5-4-4-8-4 across the last six runs, which is a string of near-misses and mid-field finishes without anything that suggests a win is imminent — but also without anything catastrophic. Outer Edge keeps showing up and finishing races, which counts for something.

The partnership with jockey Gina Mangan is the most interesting thread in this story. She has been aboard for 17 of the 22 career races — that is a remarkably consistent combination — and both wins have come with her in the saddle. A 12% win rate together (2 from 17) might not sound spectacular, but the fact that she has been on board for virtually the whole career and been there for every big moment gives the partnership a real sense of continuity. Trainer Christopher Mason has sent out 12 winners this season, so the yard is clearly functioning well — Outer Edge just hasn't been the one to add to that tally recently.

Having raced just one day ago, Outer Edge is clearly in an active campaign. Whether this horse can rediscover winning form after more than a year without a victory is the central question. At Class 6, the competition is tight and the margins are small, and Outer Edge has proven it can win at that level. The pieces are there — a settled partnership, a trainer in form, and a horse that finishes races. It is just a matter of when, and whether, they all come together again.
