Our Hero Matty

The recent form makes for mixed reading. A third-place finish two runs ago was a bright spot, but an eleventh and a tenth either side of it tell a more familiar tale. Jockey Ben Robinson has had the ride eight times and is still waiting for that breakthrough — not for want of trying, but this is clearly a horse that keeps testing patience. At Class 5, the lowest tier of competition, Our Hero Matty has run four times without winning, which will be a source of frustration for the team at Garstang. Tony Culhane and Stella Barclay have sent out six winners this season, so the yard clearly knows how to get horses to the front — it just hasn't happened yet with this one.

At 13 races in, a three-year-old is still relatively young and developing, and placed finishes mean the yard — sorry, the team — haven't given up. The question is whether a first win arrives before the season runs out.
