Our Havana

Oisin Orr rides him whenever possible, and the numbers tell the story: Orr has steered him to three wins from seven races together, a 43 per cent success rate that is markedly better than Our Havana's overall record. That kind of jockey effect matters — it suggests Orr understands how to get the best from him and that Our Havana runs better when familiar hands are in charge. His most recent win came at York four months ago, which means he has been in and out of form since, as evidenced by his last six races: a win, a ninth-place finish, 16th, 11th, ninth, and 12th most recently. That is the pattern of a horse trying hard but not quite clicking at the moment.

He is a course specialist at Southwell, where he has won two of his three races — a 67 per cent win rate at that track that is well above his average. Normal ground conditions suit him best, with three wins from six races on standard ground. At the top level, though — Class 2 races — he wins just one from seven, suggesting that when he steps into the highest company his yard regularly targets, he struggles to compete. That win came at Musselburgh in April, and it is one of only five victories he has recorded in his entire career. Trained by Richard and Peter Fahey's North Yorkshire yard, Our Havana remains active and racing regularly, though the current form dip means he is worth watching for signs of recovery rather than betting on right now.
