What makes the situation genuinely interesting is who is doing the teaching. Otherworldly is trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien at his yard in Owning Hill, Co Kilkenny, and that address carries serious weight in racing. O'Brien's team has sent out 160 winners already this season — an extraordinary volume that puts the yard among the most productive operations in training. When a stable is firing at that rate, they tend to know which young horses are worth being patient with, and the fact that Otherworldly is still in the programme after an unspectacular debut suggests she has shown something at home worth waiting for.
She has raced just once in the last two days, so this is a horse mid-campaign and still developing. At two years old, with only two races to her name, the record tells you very little — some of the best horses in the world looked ordinary at this stage. What matters now is the direction of travel, and right now, that points upward.
