One Look

Trained by Paddy Twomey out of Cashel in County Tipperary — a yard that has sent out 35 winners already this season — One Look is a five-year-old whose best form has come with patient handling rather than busy scheduling. Twomey deliberately held her back at the start of this year, mapping out an autumn campaign with an eye on stepping her up in distance. That kind of long-game thinking from a trainer often separates horses who flash briefly from those who keep improving.

Her regular partner in the saddle is W J Lee, and together they have a remarkable record: 4 wins from 8 races, meaning they win exactly half the time they team up. For context, most top jockey-and-horse combinations at this level win somewhere between one in four and one in five. One in two is exceptional. There is clearly a real understanding there.

Her most recent win came at The Curragh in July 2025, and Twomey's words afterwards told the story well. A trip to Royal Ascot hadn't worked out — faster ground than she likes, a shorter distance than suits her — but back on her favourite track, stepping up in distance as her breeding suggested she should, she showed real toughness. She didn't have a clear run through the field, won only close home, and Twomey called it brave. Her recent form of 2-9-2-1-6-2 shows she hasn't always had things go her way, but the wins and placed efforts outweigh the disappointing days.

Twomey's post-win comment — "we have to step up now and look at better" — says everything about where the ambition lies. A horse who wins half her races at The Curragh, handles a step up in trip, and has a trainer already looking toward bigger targets is one to follow through the second half of the season.
