Omniscient

Those two victories came at Great Yarmouth and Southwell, both in the summer and autumn of 2022, and since then the wins have dried up entirely. The recent form figures — 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 10th, 5th reading from most recent backwards — actually contain a couple of encouraging moments. That second place in particular shows the ability is still there somewhere, even if converting it into a win has proven elusive. At longer trips, between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, Omniscient has won 1 from 6 races, which works out at roughly one win in every six attempts at those distances. That is its best record by distance, and it is worth noting.

Jockey Luke Morris has ridden Omniscient more than anyone, partnering the horse in 12 of its 22 races and winning once together — a win rate of around 8%, or roughly one win in every 12 rides. That is a modest return, though it largely reflects the horse's overall record rather than any specific issue between the two. The training operation behind Omniscient is anything but modest, however. Gordon Elliott's yard in County Meath has sent out 209 winners already this season, making it one of the most productive stables currently operating. The fact that a yard running at that kind of volume has kept faith with a horse that has not raced in 17 months suggests there is something worth waiting for — even if what that is remains to be seen when Omniscient finally returns to the track.
